Welcome to Wild Quiet Folk

This is an invitation to escape into the wild world around us, a place to celebrate the curious, the quiet, and the overlooked.

I am so glad you are here.

Each of these letters is an invitation to join me on a walk - or a swim - as I search for the wild and wondrous of the every day. I am not an expert and there is so much that I still don’t know, but I am learning to notice and this noticing has made my life so much richer. I hope you will immerse yourself in these every day adventures with me and that they may offer you a respite from life’s losses and loads. Nature is a place that accepts imperfection and all you need to bring to it is curiosity.

I am fascinated by the sea, feminism, folklore, and the stories of women that are rooted in the land. These things come up time and again on my walks and will be woven throughout my work. I am also a part time carer for my Mum, who has Alzheimer’s, which has given me a whole new capacity for wonder.

I live on the border of London and Kent and have green space at the end of my street - not rolling hills, but tangled pathways through nettles that nonetheless lead somewhere wondrous. I also write fiction, and am currently working on a feminist gothic novel. I write to hold a new lens to the things we take for granted and to find the beauty in the small, ignored or underrepresented.

I’ll be writing to you from my messy attic room or my overgrown garden, hoping to find a community of equally curious writers and readers. Join me in celebrating the beauty of the chaotic and ceaseless progression of the seasons.
